Author Kate Ryder spins a riveting ghost story as a seemingly-harmless old cottage reveals its terrifying, mournful past to its newest resident in "The Forgotten Promise" (published by AuthorHouse).

"I believe that there are many things on this earth that we have lost sight of over the years," asserts Ryder, "and I am a firm believer in there being other influences at work, if only we could tune into them."

Maddie O'Brien, a feisty Irish lass, grows weary of her London lifestyle and feels the need for change from her work with a film production company. During a shoot in Dorset, a 17th century cottage, the Olde Smithy, catches Maddie's eye, and she makes a rash decision to buy it and fix it up. Soon after moving in, Maddie experiences strange encounters and visions that begin to reveal the cottage's haunting past.

Though she does not understand it, Maddie feels drawn to the house and, for some inexplicable reason, to a local wood sculptor named Nick. Though both are in relationships, Maddie and Nick cannot fight the strong bond that brings them together, even as the spirits in Maddie's cottage grow more and more restless. As the past spills over into the present, Maddie embarks on a journey of discovery as she uncovers secrets, losses and promises forever sealed in the Olde Smithy.

"The Forgotten Promise" weaves a story of self-discovery, lost loves and second chances set against the backdrop of one of England's most bloody wars into a dynamic narrative that will remain in the minds of readers long after they've closed the book.
