According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, nearly 20 people per minute suffer at the hands of abuse in the United States. While each troubling case is drastically intimate, they all share the familiar themes of unjust violence and unwarranted suffering.

Inspired by true events, "Karma Part 1: You Crazy Bitch" is written under the pseudonym Angela McFarlene. The book chronicles' a woman's journey-whose life the narrative is based upon- and experience with domestic violence and imprisonment at a mental health hospital.

"Karma highlights how domestic violence can quickly lead to unprecedented levels of danger for the victim," the woman, who writes under the pen name, stated. "Sufferers of domestic violence may not be able to escape their tormentor, especially if the abuser has the law on his side. Karma is an example one of those cases."

"Karma - Part 1" captures the extreme abuse a woman suffers at the hands of her husband. When she refuses to conform to her spouse's strict standards, he leverages the health and judicial systems to have her committed to a mental institution. Pivoted against her husband's seemingly devout Christian demeanor, the woman works to prove her mental illness was all in her husband's head.

In order to justify her leaving, he made her out to be crazy. He had a secret and he didn't trust her to keep it. With one slip of her tongue, her husband's life as he knew it could end and that was a risk he could not take.

"Through understanding writing that shimmers with depth, the author unveils [her] soul in a dark and unsettling way, without having to resort to visually brutal scenes. [Her] character is rich and believable; her husband, sinister, through his quiet, yet effective manipulations," wrote a reviewer with Blue Ink Review.

"Karma" will show women they have the strength to stop violence and build a life beyond the abuse. For more information on the author and book, please visit http://www.karma2015.com .
