Karen Ross Epp Releases CORN ROSE

In "Corn Rose: A Novel" (published by AuthorHouse), Karen Ross Epp's new book, readers take a look inside the world of the women who paved the way for future generations of women in the workplace. Epp says, "Through their sacrifice and courage we enjoy a place at the boardroom table or the dinner table, whichever we choose."

Rose Calamia is a first-generation Italian American girl working in an aircraft plant in 1945, when she meets Iowa farm boy Jack Conner. Jack has recently been discharged from the U.S. Army and is still licking his wounds from an all too familiar war time casualty - a "Dear John letter" followed by divorce. When the love affair between Rose and Jack leads to a wedding and a move to Jack's home community, Rose is totally unprepared for the life that awaits her in rural Iowa.

Epp believes her book sheds light on an interesting topic for people curious about history. "'Corn Rose' explores what it was like to live, love and work during and after World War II," she explains. "It revisits how women in the U.S. stepped into the shoes of their boyfriends and husbands gone off to fight a war, and how in the end they would go back to being housewives and mothers. But for some this opened a whole new life."

Karen Ross Epp was born and raised in the rolling hills and farm country of southeastern Iowa. She holds a bachelor's degree from Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas, and she earned her master's degree at Wichita State University. In 2004, Epp retired from Newton public schools where she taught the visual arts. She lives with her husband in rural Kansas at the edge of the Flint Hills.
