WELLINGTON, Australia
Author Karen Elizabeth Russell celebrates the ability to live a joyful life, regardless of age, in her new novel, "When Everything Changes, Change Everything" (published by Balboa Press AU).
Ruby is a desperate romantic; she feels romance with every sight, sound and sensation. When her marriage disintegrates, she does what comes naturally - she staggers into the great unknown to rebuild her life. There she meets Joe, an old grandpa, who, like her, simply will not act his age. The two embark on a romantic adventure, daring to chase their dreams right to the end.
"The aging population is increasing more than at any other time in history," Russell says. "It is important for older people to imagine vibrant lives for themselves in their twilight years."
Through her book, Russell suggests that growing older can be a grand experience. She hopes to get readers excited and hopeful about the prospect of aging, regarding it as an opportunity to live with joyful abandon.
"We are responsible for our own joy in every stage of life," Russell says. "The twilight years can be amazing if we dare to imagine great outcomes."
