Author Julianna offers a thoroughly absorbing biography that gives a concrete picture of the trials and tribulations faced by immigrants back in the early 20th century titled Anna's Story. Inspired by and based from her mother's life story, this book chronicles a young woman's stirring journey from childhood through adulthood and from being an expatriate to becoming an immigrant in Australia.

When Julianna's father died in 1994, she realized that she had missed the chance of knowing him as a person. Sure, she knew him as a parent but beyond the fatherly figure she has grown accustomed to over the years, there wasn't much she knew about him. All his life challenges and secrets had died with him. Not wanting to make the same mistake again, the author probed into her mother's life and started scribing her story, hence, the birth of this book.

Anna was born in a village of Old Hungary, Albertsdorf, situated in the county of Baranya. After her mother died, Anna at the age of two and her sister Kati were abandoned by their father. The two sisters grew up in the care of their grandparents, Teresa and Anton. But when WWII breaks out, Anna and the family find themselves in a tight spot. Like many others, they are only mere expatriates and, at the height of the war, their well-being and safety are their sole responsibility.

Readers can follow Anna as she journeys from Albertsdorf to Hungary proper, to Austria and Munich, then finally to Australia. Loaded with vivid descriptions of people, places and events from WWI to WWII, Anna's Story depicts a refugee's struggle to find protection, love and purpose in a war-ravaged stretch of time.
