After graduating from Cornell, author Joshua Alexander was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. He spent the next decade in hospitals, on medication, living on Social Security disability and staying in a group home. In "Healing Schizoaffective: A Firsthand Look at the Illness and How I Beat It!" (published by Balboa Press), Alexander shares how he was finally able to heal with the help of homeopathy.

"Millions of people in this country alone suffer from mental illness," says Alexander. "Mental illness is debilitating and heart-wrenching. Any book with wisdom gained from experience in-the-trenches will appeal to those people suffering, their family members, and people working in the field."

While the author provides an array of symptoms he experienced to show the reader what it is like to live with schizoaffective disorder, Alexander says he does not want to dwell on the suffering: "The main focus of the book is on revealing insights and wisdom gained from my experience, and on offering the tools that I found useful in healing."
