Joseph of Arimathea Explores Biblical Stories

As Chinese philosopher Lao Tsu stated, those who speak do not know, those who know do not speak. What does this mean for historically-accepted truths in The Bible?

"Joseph of Arimathea," by Brian Mellor is a historical fiction that explores alternatives to widely-excepted stories in the Bible, including the story of Jesus' life and death, seen through the eyes of his uncle, Joseph of Arimathea.

"I'm not saying that what is in my book is the truth, but that it holds a different perspective on Christianity," Mellor says. "It opens the doors to alternatives to what people have been taught for a thousand years."

Unlike many other theological explorations of The Bible, "Joseph of Arimathea" takes bold liberties with traditional teachings of the Christian faith. Skepticisms about stories in the Bible stemming from Mellor's childhood led to the alternative plots found in his new book.

A book that took seven years of research to complete, "Joseph of Arimathea" entertains such plots as Pontius Pilate's reluctance to crucify Jesus, Jesus' secret marriage to Mary Magdalene, and the Assembly of High Judges and how they intended to control Jesus' life.

"I want readers to take away a sense of enjoyment and added knowledge that history is written by the victors and the real stories are buried some where between the losers and victors," Mellor says. "Do not take for granted that all you have read is as it really was."

Brian Mellor is a retired machine and tool designer, including work for the auto, aircraft and nuclear industries. He also spent 10 years as a high school teacher. In his retirement, Mellor is very active, playing Squash 4-5 times a week and volunteering at (PEFAC) Prince Edward Fitness and Aquatic Centre. His involvement includes 7 years with the Agincourt Lions Hockey Club, 3 years with the Disabled Athletes Association, 11 years with the All Ontario Invitational Soccer Association, 7 years as the Assistant Trainer to teach Squash in the York region, and 7 years as a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, as Social Director Chair. Mellor currently resides in Picton, Ontario with his family.
