As in the case with most immigrants, the future that was ahead for author Joseph De Prest's family was one with mixed blessings. His father was uncertain and often disgusted but maddeningly provoked by the hope that maybe there would be a better life for his family in C anada.

"An Immigrant's Quest" is a heartwarming story that takes readers back to the day when De Prest migrated to a new land, continents away from his own, and cast aside many of the habits and customs he was born into, to start a new life. For others, the pressures of new habits and environments are tremendous. But by the time the De Prest family bought their boat tickets to migrate in Canada, they knew that they were bound for a country that existed in their heads in rich, complex, but varied possibilities.

Being a Belgian immigrant, and still reeling from a miserable past, the writer narrates vividly his experiences in this new world of long winters and short summers. De Prest knew that a strange new life stood in front of him. He decided to trade his youth for industry. He carved success out of dread and planted his dreams in the soil of his new land. However, there were enormous changes that took place in Canada and there were forces that shaped his future but whose faces he did not know. Determined to follow his dream for a better life, De Prest learned to embrace his new world. Although his life was marked by constant struggles and uncertainties, he challenged his destiny and enriched his experience. He knew that there was no turning back-besides, his past was not filled with memories to build dreams on. His parent's strong love provides the driving force that led him to succeed over life's toughest adversities.

"An Immigrant's Quest" is a nostalgic, enlightening and inspiring read. That thakes readers inside the life of an immigrant's family of 12 and provides an insight into their dreams, hopes, despairs and triumphs. Filled with hope and optimism, this true story reflects the life of a Belgian family who never gave up and never lost hope as they journey to canada gave them an opportunity to have a new and better life.
