Throughout his life, author Johnny searched for love. In his new book, "This is My Life, My Journey: A Look into the Past" (published by iUniverse), Johnny shares with readers glimpses of his difficult relationship with a mother who never showed him love and the long road he followed to eventually find it.

"It's a true story," says Johnny, who hopes readers will learn from his experiences.

Growing up in rural Mississippi, Johnny was born into a family of 12 half brothers and sisters. His mother was unstable and beat him mercilessly. When he was 6, she beat him for not knowing his ABC's. Johnny's life changed forever when he was baptized, an event his mother refused to attend. "Johnny Lee, you don't have no religion," she said to him.

Through God, Johnny was able to find the strength and courage to escape his abusive mother and find the true love he always deserved.

Writing has been cathartic for Johnny. He believes that telling his story helps him ease the pain of his traumatic upbringing, and he hopes other people who have suffered from child abuse will feel the same sense of healing through his book.
