NEW YORK, Oct. 25, 2016 /PRNewswire/ Just in time for the 2016 World Series, author John Mercurio releases the first of the 30 most comprehensive baseball team record books ever published. The culmination of more than 38 years of research, Mercurio's new series chronicles each record in hitting, pitching and fielding by every player in the history of major league baseball (MLB).
"I'm trying to make sure that people remember the great players from the past," Mercurio explains. "My books show you not only the present record, but what the old records were, who held them and for how long." Other baseball books eliminate old records when new ones are created. This bothered Mercurio in 1985, when the Baseball Hall of Fame couldn't tell him who held more records: Ty Cobb or Babe Ruth. Over five years, he found his answer and invented a new approach to baseball research: Chronology record keeping.
The Baseball Hall of Fame has called on Mercurio to settle record disputes. Former American League President Bobby Brown calls his work "a baseball treasure." There are more than 250,000 copies of Mercurio's six previous books in print in all editions. The research for these works led up to his masterpiece, the fan-friendly series of chronology record books covering all 30 MLB teams.
Books on the Kansas City Royals and New York Mets, last year's World Series foes, will be available in paperback and eBook format in October. Followed by books on the Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Indians, Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Dodgers, Washington Nationals, Boston Red Sox, San Francisco Giants, and Texas Rangers. "Baseball is our National Pastime and a venerable Rite of Passage for millions of Americans," says publisher Lawrence Jordan. "We bring our young to baseball games as early as we can, holding them in our arms and in baby pouches as we expose them to the sights and sounds and smells of The Game. We do this so that they can develop and maintain a relationship with baseball for life. John Mercurio understands our love for The Game, his books connect with baseball fans of all ages, especially the young. For young fans of today, his books are a generational bridge between baseball's present era, and the legacy of its grand and glorious past."
