Author John M. Gurule admits that his problem was with alcohol and drugs. He started drinking and smoking weed at the age of fifteen. He did not start doing the harder drugs until he hit high school. In high school, he experienced acid, hard liquor, cocaine, heroin, and more alcohol.

He was a man who thought he had grown up. He had his own car and an eight-hour job. He started off good. The only problem was he had no education on God's law. He got hooked up with alcohol, different types of drugs, acid, cocaine and heroin, all of which were added through the years. He would get into one problem after another. He was failing left and right-jails, Christian homes, churches, prisons, hospitals, Turquoise Lodge and into a number of programs. He would eventually get out of these places, feeling good, healthy. He felt he could conquer, resist the temptations, negative attitudes, of alcohol and drugs. But pride would set in, and after a while, he would fall apart again. He has been in over 20 different programs most of which are highlighted in this book.

His recovery came though pastors, jails, prisons, churches, Christian homes' programs and friends all of which have saved his life. He knows that God saved his life through people who cared about his recovery. God gave him the best help anyone could ever get. These people who have helped him out through the years are also included in this book.
