ASHBURN, Va.
With 28 years in the field of law enforcement, author John Lindsey Hickman is at no loss for stories to tell. He felt that these experiences coupled with his imagination would make for an exciting read. He first published "A Cold Snow in Castaway County" about a small, rural sheriff's office. His new novel, "A Black Bear Killer in Castaway County" (published by Archway Publishing), follows the main character of the first book as he tackles a new case.
Set in Maine, Hickman's book follows the adventures of small-town sheriff Wendell "Dell" Hinton. Multiple homicides at a local truck stop have the townspeople fearing for their safety. Dell begins gathering clues to stop the murderer and bring him to justice.
"I think that, especially these days, people want to be able to view law enforcement agencies as being led by people who have good character," Hickman says.
Hickman believes that events such as the riots over Michael Brown's shooting in Ferguson, Missouri, have caused the public to question the integrity of men and women in uniform. He hopes that his book will help people to remember that there are officers who possess honesty and integrity. Law enforcement, Hickman states, is still an honorable career.
