LAS VEGAS (PRWEB) July 23, 2015
For 34 years, John L. Sullivan worked as a police officer. His experiences ranged from humorous to tragic. In order to leave a legacy of what police life is really like, Sullivan wrote his new memoir, "Chief of Detectives" (published by iUniverse).
Sullivan's book covers more than three decades of his career as a police officer, starting as a cop in a small town in the Midwest and then serving during the hey-day of organized crime and street crime in Las Vegas. He progressed through the ranks from a rookie officer to Deputy Chief and Chief of Detectives of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. He presents a contrast between what the profession looked like at the beginning of his career and what it looks like now. Sullivan also gives the reader a glimpse into the tactics and personnel used to fight both street crime and organized crime.
"I do not dwell on my involvement in specific criminal cases," Sullivan says, "rather, I share with the reader the behind the scenes of various incidents that I have been involved in, witnessed or have been told about from credible sources."
Nevada's governor Bob Miller recognized Sullivan in a proclamation for his "outstanding contributions to the law enforcement profession and the community" and for training more police officers than any one instructor in the history of Nevada's law enforcement and also commended him for serving as chairperson of the Southern Nevada Substance Abuse Council for three years. He also received the U.S. Congressional Certificate of Recognition for his 34 years of police work.
