Author John Kingston McMahon accounts his search for his father and his roots, the ups and downs of the long journey to finding his self and his heritage in his book "A Long Way to Goulacullin."

Growing up in the harsh world of child welfare homes in Australia during the 1950s and 60s has been a challenge and an unforgettable memory for McMahon. The release of his parent's information was denied by the authorities and it made the search of the father who abandoned him seem like an impossible feat. Yet, after 47 years of hard, long and never ending search, he finally traced his heritage back to Ireland; he learned that his father was an Irishman who migrated to Australia after the Second World War.

Emotional and hopefully inspirational, McMahon's journey to finding the truth about his identity and the hardships of living with denied identities will surely touch readers' hearts and open their eyes to one of Australia's dark times. Hanging on to a thread of a memory that took him across the world and the joys he felt after he finally found his long lost family will also give smile and joys to readers who may have been apart from their family for a long time.

A true journey from childhood adversity to adulthood, "A Long Way to Goulacullin" will be a light and beacon of hope to those who are still searching and for those people who are the forgotten Australians of this time.
