Author John H. Zaugg views American society as anything but free. In his new book "The Truth: Tuning the lights back on in America" (published by AuthorHouse), Zaugg highlights some of the biggest problems and pitfalls plaguing the United States and offers clear concise advice for citizens looking to become more knowledgeable and active in their country's politics.

Zaugg describes "The Truth" as a self-help book for concerned Americans. Since childhood, he has felt a sort of disconnect in the country, a vague feeling that something was not quite right.

"The Truth" reveals what Zaugg believes to be the problem with the United States, the moral fog he sees descending on the country. His writings touch on hot-button issues of today such as poverty, health care and education reform and offer solutions that readers can apply to their everyday lives.

"Here is a book that defines the core values on which our future must be built," states Zaugg. "Instead of relying on some politicians or master authorities to solve our problems, here is what we must do."

An excerpt from "The Truth":

"It's not complicated. Being human means our lives and choices are guided by our values and principles. We either live like responsible adults or descend down a slippery slope-that is the choice we are making. Individual liberty without moral values does not solve America's problem."
