In "The Golden Griffin: A Historical Romance of Mystery and Deception" (published by Trafford Publishing), author Joe Conceicao's novel, Myanmar history arrives in the present for a story about amazing coincidences.
In the 16th century, Portuguese fighters became a powerful influence over rulers in Myanmar's Rakhine region. One of those leaders, Felipe de Brito, amassed valuable treasure and was subsequently executed by a Myanmar King because Brito had stolen sacred treasures from the kingdom.
An excerpt from "The Golden Griffin":
"The Temple environs were redolent with a variety of fragrances-that of jasmine and other flowers like roses, and even of artificially scented orchids that were used to make garlands for the important religious occasion. The sound of drums dominated."
A present day, newly enthused historian, Jeanne de Mello, begins investigating this hidden treasure, discovering that she is actually a descendant of Brito. Myanmar experts, using the latest advancements in psychiatry combined with Buddhist exponents of meditation put Jeanne into a dream state. Through these techniques, Jeanne is able to reach out to her ancestor and learn where the treasure had been hidden, but events don't go as smoothly as planned.
