"The strength of motherhood is greater than natural laws." First-time author Jocelyn M. Price reinforces these words by novelist, essayist and poet Barbara Kingsolver when she transforms something naturally destructive as death, into a creative force that gives birth to a passion, purpose and a published book. In her new book, Lost Boy- Bipolar Dreaming, Price shares a mother-and-son journey from despair to paradise. It reveals their struggle with mental illness-as her son suffered from bipolar disorder for many years- depression, despair and suicide, as well as their path towards hope and healing.

"I started writing it in the form of letters to him, but somewhere along the way I found that I had things that I wanted to say to people which could not be written down and addressed to Cameron exclusively," states Price. "I want the contents of this book to go out there not only for Cameron, his family and his friends, but also for all those people in the same position as I was those many years ago, when not much was known about bipolar disorder."

In this book, Price invites readers to share this journey with her and with Cameron; with her through the many other things she has felt herself compelled to say; and with Cameron through the letters she has written to him. It is a mixture of many things-of sadness and happiness, of indifference and compassion, of despair and hope, of loss and recovery, of lows and highs-that readers can surely learn from.

A touch of sadness permeates in some of the pages, especially regarding Cameron's diaries. Price has only put down some excerpts from them, for to put everything down would have been too emotional for her and too depressing for readers. On the other hand, however, her letters to her son also speak of happy times-times which will always be remembered.

More than a tragic book about bipolar disorder and loss, Lost Boy- Bipolar Dreaming is a triumphant journey to be shared with countless other people out there who have gone through depression, or have dealt with a mental illness. Price has clearly showed the strength of motherhood and found a new passion and purpose in life by sharing the lessons she learned from their inspiring journey.

"These are all part of the shadow world for a person like my son who had to live with a mental illness. I know that for me Cameron's story will be never-ending... I do hope that you will enjoy Cameron's story just as much as I have enjoyed writing it," Price adds.
