When author Jo Amdahl was teaching a series of Bible studies about the Book of Daniel, she saw a general lack of understanding surrounding the details of that biblical period of time. The experience inspired her to write her new book, "Empire of Gold: Foundations" (published by WestBow Press).
Written as a historical account of the lives of Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Daniel, "Empire of Gold" describes, with precise detail, the rise of the Neo-Babylonian Empire. The story's setting stretches from the ancient lands of Asia Minor to the northern steps of what is present-day Siberia.
Throughout the book, readers will encounter biblical characters such as Jeremiah, the "weeping prophet," Josiah, the child king of Judah, and Naboplassar, the king of Babylon.
"In a time of chaos, empires were built and overthrown and God's hand of protection over his people was supernaturally evident through it all," Amdahl says. ""Empire of Gold" is the story of biblical giants like King Josiah and Jeremiah, and historical legends like Nebuchadnezzar and Cyaxares."
Amdahl hopes readers will be inspired to go back and read the Bible - in particular, the writings of the prophets - to see the texts come alive with newly revealed meanings.
