Hoping to help others overcome life obstacles, author Jim Te Selle created "You Can Do This!: Cooking Up a Happier You for You and Yours" (published by Trafford Publishing) a cookbook that cooks up more than just food.
Intended for, as Selle calls them, all the unhappy people, "You Can Do This!" uses cooking as a vehicle to teach readers how to build self-esteem and self-confidence. As readers progress through Selle's self-help book, he helps them understand that doing little things and being successful at them are what build a person up - not doing something big that is likely to fail. The book presents them with meals, daily challenges, that get more difficult as the reader continues through Selle's course. At the end of the book, he hopes that readers have learned to not give up and to listen to others who can provide them with helpful advice.
An excerpt from "You Can Do This!":
"So how's a cookbook that's not really a cookbook going to put spice back into your life? Simple: the objective of this book is to help you build a happy life for yourself and those you love. It's about doing things, small things, that make you feel good about yourself, and it uses meal preparation as the means to do that. Other cookbooks don't. Their objective is to produce a dish or a meal; the objective of this one is to help build your sense of self-esteem."
