For nearly 30 years, author Jim McNeff served his city as a police officer, balancing his busy life with his career. In his new book, "The Spirit behind Badge 145: A personal walk and devotional with a law enforcement professional" (published by WestBow Press), McNeff gives other officer and civilian readers a behind-the-scenes look at real life police work from dramatic cops-and-robbers stories to the emotional mess that many officers face.

"A police career requires shift work to cover a 24 hour, seven day per week operation, not to mention holidays," McNeff says from experience. "It is easy to become detached from one's support network and church."

"The Spirit behind Badge 145" includes McNeff's stories as well as his fellow officers' stories of life on the force. McNeff connects each story to a biblical principle and artfully renders his own struggles to keep his faith strong while on the job. His stories capture the pressure of being in law enforcement and often find their solutions in Scripture.

Other police officers will find strength and comfort in McNeff's stories, and civilian readers will be treated to a rare walk in a police officer's shoes. McNeff hopes to entertain readers and pass on his emotional and spiritual experiences to officers, their families and others who desire greater depth.

"I hope they will transfer the biblical principles highlighted and discussed in each chapter to enhance the growth in their life."
