Alarmed by the recent and ongoing Chinese upheavals and most Chinese tradition and culture being washed away at a speed beyond people's imagination, author Jianxin Huang decided to record what he learned, heard and know of, and leave a little trace of history of those humble people who were considered not worthy of notice by the elite. Historically accurate and interesting, this new offer whisks readers back to the past and puts the spotlight on those people who are the unsung heroes just like Linsen, "A Humble Hero."

This book is about Huang's grandfather, Linsen, who was born into a typical peasant farmer's family in 1900, inherited a huge amount of debt, and went through drastic social, economic and political changes. He tried his best to resist the destruction of Chinese traditions and culture all his life, became a very skilled, knowledgeable, and successful farmer, and a well-respected person in the community. Yet in the end, he himself became a victim of the dreadful disintegration of traditions.

Having grown among those humble people who he refers to, witnessing and sharing the standpoint of those on the bottom of the society, Huang presents a detailed look at ordinary Chinese peasant farmers, who are the backbone of Chinese faith, ideals, morals and traditions. "A humble man himself, Huang accounts a remarkable life journey of his grandfather to open the eyes of both Eastern and Western people to a completely different, real China and real Chinese traditions and culture, particularly those pertinent to the bottom level of society.
