Jessica Levitt has had firsthand experience working with specially-abled children. Wanting readers to have a deeper understanding of their special condition, she narrates the story of one child with her magical horse. "Sally's Magical Horse" (published by AuthorHouse) is a vividly illustrated read for youngsters and adults alike that shows how a special child inspires others with her optimism amidst her condition.
This book is a great way of educating general readers to the needs of special children. There are few, if any, other picture books that depict medically fragile children and therapeutic horseback riding. It will help typical children to accept and understand children in their school who may be in wheelchairs or have other medically necessary equipment with them during the school day.
As readers follow Sally's life, they witness how she is aided by her family (and a special horse) to explore the world beyond the confines of her wheel chair and medical condition. They will also see how children like Sally can have fruitful and optimistic lives with the needed help and support.
"It is my hope that teachers, parents and children take away some insight into the challenges that medically fragile children and their families face and knowledge about the benefits of therapeutic horseback riding," Levitt says.

About the Author
Jessica Levitt is into her 12th year living in New York City. Holding a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA), she explored working with young children in various settings. She found her passion in a residential treatment facility for medically fragile children, and she has treasured her five years working with these specially-abled children. She has also volunteered at two therapeutic horseback riding centers in the Greater New York City Area, Flying Manes and Gallop in Riverdale. She was inspired to bring these two worlds together in "Sally's Magical Horse."
