ANKENY, Iowa

The series of essays within author Jay Alan Reeves' new book "Proclivities: A Pop Culture Odyssey" (published by Archway Publishing) throws politically correct views out the door in favor of a frank interpretation of the dynamics of modern pop culture.

Reeves wrote his essays as a way of "sorting social bovine fecal matter from the truth" and bringing pop culture issues into critical view with a cheeky twist.

"Proclivities" leaves no political or pop culture topic unscathed. Reeves analyzes the liberal and conservative camps of thought while providing his opinion on words that start with "n" and investigating why public opinion on global warming shifts depending upon political affiliation.

In concise chapters, Reeves offers satirical commentary on the state of subjects like men's and women's rights and the judicial system, even going so far as to dedicate an entire chapter to "the national register of things that suck," with "getting up early and going to work" at the top.

Reeves hopes his book is as eye-opening as it is entertaining for his readers. He says it is "compelling, informative and humorous," and supposes readers will develop new critical thinking skills while reading "Proclivities."
