Janis L. Brown Releases New Picture Book THE BIRDLAND HOTEL

In an increasingly diverse and multicultural society, the virtues of tolerance, open-mindedness and understanding cannot be understated. Getting along with one another, and getting over each other's differences to recognize the fundamental similarities shared by everyone, is one of the most important lessons a child, or even an adult, can learn in life. These values are what author Janis L. Brown seeks to convey in her new picture book for children, The Birdland Hotel.

In Brown's book, young readers will join a diverse cast of birds who flock together despite their differences. All of the feathery characters in the book have unique characteristics that make each of them special. When an unseasonable storm occurs, they realize that all the birds, with all their differences, must work together in order to survive. Through this tale, Ms. Brown hopes to show how cooperation is needed to achieve the successful outcome of any endeavor.

The Birdland Hotel teaches young readers excellent values that will guide them throughout their lives. Cooperation, acceptance and diversity are all important components for not only individual or collective success, but for a most harmonious society as well.

About the Author
Ms. Janis L. Brown graduated with a bachelor of science in elementary education degree from Fort Hays State University, Kansas. Since that time, she has earned her master's and doctor's degrees in mental health. She has also spent hours toward becoming a specialist in early childhood education. She has utilized her education for the past forty-two years in the mental health field as a preschool owner/teacher, elementary guidance counselor, and community mental health counselor. In addition, she has provided parenting and counseling workshops at the local, state, and national level.

About the Artist
Ms. Kersenbrock graduated with a BS degree in art education from Fort Hays State University. She taught sculpturing and stone carving in the art department of Colby Junior College and gave private lessons while living in Colby. Since that time, Ms. Kersenbrock utilized her training in arts and crafts and sold sculptures and ceramics in eleven different stores throughout Wichita and the surrounding areas. Also, she was owner/operator of Crafter's Bazaar in historical Council Grove.
