Children's books often incorporate animals as a way for the children to relate to the themes of the books. Janette Bickford does just that in her new book "Vern and His Butterfly Migration" (published by Trafford Publishing), continuing the fun, friendship and kindness of her first book in Vern's adventure series, "Vern's Vacation."
"In 'Vern's Vacation,' Vern, a caterpillar, and Brett, a human boy, make a connection," Bickford explains. "I was inspired to continue Vern's story and extend Vern and Brett's friendship."
Vern was just a caterpillar the last time he saw his human friend, Brett. Now a butterfly, Vern is migrating south with his family when he spots Brett, on vacation with his own human family. Brett's family is very kind to Vern and his family, despite not recognizing them at first. The two rekindle their friendship and get to spend some quality time together in a well known amusement park before Vern's family carries on with their migration.
"I would hope the book is not only entertaining," Bickford writes, "but also a learning experience about being kind to others for both the reader and the one being read to."
