Debut author Jane Paul was tasked by her father to relay a family story. In her first venture in the literary world, she accomplished that request. "The Waterfall Gods" (published by Xlibris AU) is the story of an ordinary English family that, partly because of the times through which they lived but more probably because of the choices they made, became an extraordinary family.

This is the story of three daughters of an English country doctor, in the early years of the 20th century, whose lives were changed forever by events a world away from their English village. Theirs is a tale showing the strength and determination of the young women. The beautiful Catherine is caught up in a loveless marriage to a handsome policeman in Sri Lanka; Martha, the dedicated young doctor is on course for tragedy; and Victoria goes on to become the darling of theatre-goers in London's West End. Their experiences tell of two world wars, unbelievable cruelty and the effects of all this on their descendants.

The experiences of the young women echo the same woes and trials of the people of that time, even of the modern day. Their adventures in England and Sri Lanka speak for the colorful yet harrowing roller coaster ride filled with lessons and insights that will touch and encourage readers to fight and overcome life's trial. This historical fiction highlights the fact that whatever choices parents and ancestors make, it will have an effect to their descendants.

"I would like people to go away with an appreciation of the courage of young people, at a time when communication and travel was nowhere near as simple as it is today," Paul says. "I would like them to feel a pride in the young women described, who stepped out of their secure background and faced the challenges outside their normal experiences."

About the Author
Jane Paul was born in England and travelled extensively throughout much of the world, both as a child, with her parents, and later as an adult. Her early life was spent as a ballet dancer in Australia and Europe. When illness ended that career, she went nursing, qualifying as a registered nurse in the 1960s. This, in turn, took her to some of the more remote areas of Australia. She has been writing since she was a small girl, but "The Waterfall Gods" is her first published work - work mainly of fiction but based on her family's history. Since retirement, Paul has been travelling again, recently to Sri Lanka, for background material for her novel.
