Author Jane Newhagen was profiled with in the September issue of Keys Style, a quarterly magazine celebrating the unique lifestyle of the Florida Keys. The cover story by Nicole Itrato tells its readers: "While attending the Key West Ambassadorship Program, Jane's class took a trip to the Key West cemetery. While on visit there, Jane heard of a volunteer position available at the cemetery. With her love for history and the 'utmost respect for alphabetical order,' she began as a volunteer for the cemetery and was soon offered a part-time job as archivist, organizing and digitizing local history and records. "Because of her extensive knowledge and research of the cemetery and her writing skills, Jane was approached by two photographers working on a book of the Key West Cemetery. Carol Tedesco and Roberta DePiero created Afterlife: Images from the Key West Cemetery. The book captures many beautiful images and history of the cemetery. Jane was asked to provide the narrative for the book. "Again she worked hard researching to bring words that were meaningful and accurate for each piece." "It's a beautiful book. I love it," Jane admits.
After Life is a sensitively compiled collection of images from the Key West City Cemetery. Some of the subjects are iconic and familiar. Others are hidden in quiet corners or as fleeting as a cloud blowing before the sun. All are memorable. Photographers Carol Tedesco and Roberta DePiero have caught the spirit and shapes of the Key West graveyard from morning dew until sunset and placed the pictures on the pages of this artistic book with remarkable attention to composition, tone, and harmony.
