ATLANTA -

This new novel, set in Georgia during the Civil War, tells the story of 14-year-old Sayre Howard, whose father is serving in the Confederate Army and whose mother has died from typhoid fever. She is alone except for her devoted family friend and former slave, Freeman. Her dearest companion is a Saddlebred horse named Southern Warrior, whom she must protect from the advancing Union Army.

"Warrior's Song" describes the lengths Sayre will go to after the Union forces steal Southern Warrior to try and get her treasured horse back. Sayre dresses as a boy for protection in this violent world of war, and she and Freeman follow the Union Army as it marches through Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and on to Washington, taking Southern Warrior with them. Life following the Union Army is hard, with dangers present at every turn.

Only someone with a passion for horses, the Civil War and history could have written this beautifully penned historical novel. Author Jane Harmon has taught middle school students in a prestigious private school in Atlanta and owns two Saddlebred horses of her own. She and her husband live in an historic neighborhood in Atlanta. History comes alive under the pen of Author Jane Harmon on the pages of "Warrior's Song."

For those interested, Harmon is available to give talks about this historic period in U.S. history and about her book to school children in fifth through ninth grade, libraries, book stores and other historical venues. To contact Harmon, email her at harmonjane126(at)gmail(dot)com.
