From diaper mishaps to snakes in the house, author and mother of five Jana Miller has seen just about everything a stay-at-home mom can see. In her new book, "One of Those Days: The Mommy Diaries" (published by WestBow Press), Miller lets readers experience some of her many chaotic stories of being a mom, and proves that laughter truly is the best medicine.
"One of Those Days" chronicles Miller's life, both present and past. Many of the stories take place during Miller's own childhood as she grew up with four older brothers, an experience she says prepared her for being a mother. The rest of the book gives readers a glimpse into some of the many humorous situations Miller has found herself in due to her children.
"I hope my book will appeal to readers of any age or walk of life," Miller says. "It doesn't teach or preach, it hopefully lets parents know someone else is slogging through the trenches of parenthood and for the older generation it is a great trip down memory lane to their own childhood and parenting days."
An excerpt from "One of Those Days":
"I wished the snake would just be quiet so I could think. Then I realized the whimpering noises were coming from me. I forced myself to take some deep, calming breaths. 'I am an adult. I am bigger than this snake. I am a very resourceful person. I can take care of this little domestic problem.' After this appallingly ineffectual pep talk to myself, I snapped on some thick rubber gloves, stepped into tall chore boots, armed myself with a plunger and an empty ice-cream bucket, and flipped the toilet lid back open. The snake was still there, peacefully doing the sidestroke, keeping a beady eye trained on me."
