Author and artist Jan Gero lives by Socretes' immortal words, "Know thyself." In his epic quest to pursue transparency, Gero is releasing his journals in a new two volume collection, starting with the first book, "me on me" (published by iUniverse) with the sequel "more me on me" (published by iUniverse).
"I wanted to share the personal discoveries of my many years of journal making without the minute details of the actual journals," says Gero, "so I selected 14 events of my life and crafted them more like stories."
Gero's first book contains seven stories derived from over 50 years of journaling and includes over 500 original drawings. The stories highlight some of the darkest and brightest moments of his life such as the death of his father, the pursuit of romance and personal encounters he had while traveling to visit family in Germany, Denmark, France and Israel. Within these stories, he strives to deliver "authenticity and identity through self-deconstruction."
With evocative drawings and a unique perspective on the human condition, "me on me" reveals the inner workings of an evolving humanist artist. "Self-realization is today's biological imperative," says Gero, "and for the aged, like me, at 80, the deterioration of the body and threat of death is a daily, meaningful preoccupation that demands profound attention."
