Author James R. Cooley, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, brings readers the true story of a young man surviving against all odds during WWII in his new creative nonfiction, "Parker's Crossroads: Revenge of the Golden Lion" (published by Trafford Publishing).

Jack Ebbott, the 19-year-old son of the Chase Manhattan Bank vice president, wants nothing more than to see combat. Unfortunately for Jack, his social status has him locked into a safe billet. Determined, he slips through several loopholes and lands himself the role of combat medic. Unbeknownst to Jack, his dream of combat soon becomes all too real.

"Parker's Crossroads" follows Jack as he is forced to transform from a Choate School boy into a war hardened soldier. He will survive the three fateful days of the battle of Parker's Crossroads, the trials of a POW camp, the wrath of Hitler's security service and the horrors that haunt him for the rest of his life. He will live to tell it all to a dissolute writer named Ogden Santee in 1980.

An excerpt from "Parkers Crossroads":

"On an evening after we had our first talk, Ogden Santee delivered a long lecture to the patron on the evils of tipping. Everybody thought it was funny, except the waitress and the bartender. According to one of the regulars (a wasted remittance man named Guffy), Ogden Santee called tipping a vile practice, a demeaning act, and a lot of other things that Guffy couldn't remember."
