James Patterson Reveals Tips on How to Write an 'Unputdownable' Story

James Patterson is an American author largely known for his novels about fictional psychologist Alex Cross, the protagonist of the Alex Cross series. Patterson also wrote the Michael Bennett, Women's Murder Club, Maximum Ride, Daniel X, and Witch and Wizard series, as well as many stand-alone thrillers, non-fiction and romance novels. His books have sold more than 300 million copies.

In a recent interview, he talks to Co.Create about the secrets to telling a good story. Some of those secrets include:

1. Write stories the way people tell them;

2. Make it an experience;

3. Short chapters keep people reading;

4. It doesn't have to be realistic.
