WAYNESBURG, Ohio
Author James Huffman introduces readers to an evil queen named Evilla, a powerful wizard named Watzo and a young protagonist named Susan in his debut juvenile fiction "Susan and the Sunflower" (published by Archway Publishing).
The story of "Susan and the Sunflower" takes place in a magical, mysterious land where the wicked queen Evilla goes to great lengths to exact revenge upon the people who abandoned her kingdom and fled to the nearby kingdom of Taberon.
Evilla is a tall, curvaceous and beautiful sorceress. For fear of never enacting revenge on Watzo the wizard and the people who abandoned her kingdom, Evilla concocts and drinks an immortality potion to preserve her looks, allowing her more time to pursue revenge at her convenience. The potion turns her bottom half into that of a black widow spider with an hourglass embedded in her back. Locking herself and the entire kingdom within a sunflower seed for 500 years, Evilla is doomed to turn the hourglass every night after midnight, but before sunrise, or risk certain death.
As Watzo the wizard attempts to foil Evilla's plans of destruction and vengeance, he seeks out the help of Susan, who may be able to put a stop to Evilla's sinister plans. But Susan is only 13. What can she do to stop a queen with magic powers? Susan must look inside herself to find her inner strength and defeat Evilla before the kingdom of Taberon is destroyed forever.
