James Howerton Imagines Dystopian Future in New Doomsday Science Fiction

Two teenagers attempt to survive in the wilderness as the world collapses around them in author James Howerton's new science fiction novel, "Dylan's Hill" (published by iUniverse).

In the near future, something has caused major electric grids to fail, sending the Earth into darkness. Sixteen-year-old Dylan escapes to the Abraham National Forest and sets up camp, hoping to wait out the catastrophe. There, he meets 18-year-old Julie, a pistol-wielding rock climber who is as terrified of the end of the world as he is.

Dylan and Julie decide to face the future together, and living without electricity soon becomes the least of their problems. New dangers appear all around them in the form of a paramilitary religious cult, a group of savage survivalists and other crazed individuals stumbling through the end of civilization. As the world rapidly disintegrates around them, Dylan and Julie begin to wonder if they are the new Adam and Eve.

"I'm only 16, but I've read a lot of history. Enough to know that the sudden collapse of the world has always been shocking and unbelievable. It happens with a sudden earthquake or hurricane; it happens with a sudden lack of electricity. The ones who can't believe it's happening are the ones to die first.
