JD Liddle marks his debut in the publishing scene with a new novel featuring "Shattered Hand: Sarah's Secret War" (published by LifeRich Publishing). Enthralling and evocative, this tale presents a historical depiction of the Civil War and its battles highlighted by unique, interesting characters and their own experiences of survival.

Sarah Clarke is a young woman who matures and lives through many challenging and perilous experiences during the Civil War. She is loyal to her Southern heritage but at the same time conflicted by her father's feelings about slavery. "Shattered Hand" charts her poignant journey to understand not only his perspective but the lives and values of people she grows to love and admire.

"I wanted to write a book about the Civil War that contained a good story with believable characters. I also wanted to include some value about moral judgments and the way people are able to rise above tragedy and move forward with hope," Liddle shares. "Sarah's coming-of-age during America's struggle for survival is a mirror of most young people struggling with the beliefs of their parents and their own emerging identity. Her resolutions reflect her changing values learned from lessons of tragic and difficult experience."

A snippet from "Shattered Hand" reads:
Sarah said "Mattie, I must confess I do not like slavery and when I buy you it will be so I can free you."

Now Mattie had an opportunity to speak for the first time about the bargain which had taken place earlier and said, "I resent the fact that you or anyone can buy and sell me. I don't understand why anyone would think I can be owned. If you buy me it will be the third time it has happened and I promise I will be just as angry and upset as the first time."

"I am sorry Mattie you and I don't understand each other but I thought what I did," Sarah hesitated, "I thought it would be helpful."
