Iranian Hostage Crisis Myths Debunked in ROXANA'S REVOLUTION

Popular Culture has rekindled public interest in the Iranian hostage crisis. Mainstream media often fails to paint a complete picture of this historical event.
Roxana's Revolution, A novel by Farin Powell, depicts the events surrounding the hostage crisis through the eyes of an Iranian lawyer living in America. It examines media frenzy over the hostage taking and anti-Iranian sentiments in the United States.

Roxana's Revolution highlights the plights of a professional woman attempting to balance motherhood and her career during harsh revolutionary rule and nightly bombings in Tehran. The novel tells the story of Roxana Ramsey, a young Iranian lawyer living in the United States during the start of the 1979 hostage crisis.
Although she is in the process of getting her green card, Roxana, like many other Iranian nationals on student visas, receives a letter of deportation and is forced to leave. When she reaches Iran, she is shocked by the transformation that is taking place. Roxana fights to hold onto her beliefs as well as her allegiance to two very different countries.
Farin Powell has drawn from her own experiences in writing this fiction based on real events. Her novel highlights extreme prejudices faced by Iranians living in the United States and exposes facts about the hostage crisis and Iran-United States Claims Tribunal that frequently go unreported in American media.
"The average American thinks that Iran took hostages and didn't pay any damages to them or to the United States. False, it was actually the United States government who deprived the hostages from bringing any law-suit against Iran," says Powell.

Farin Powell is a highly regarded Iranian attorney practicing in Washington, DC. She uses her personal and legal experiences to develop Roxana Ramsey, the novel's main character. In addition to many legal publications, she has published short stories and poems in various literary magazines and poetry anthologies. She is the author of the book of poetry A Piece of Heaven and the novel Two Weddings.
