ADEQUATE SAVINGS GROWING CONCERN AMOUNG AMERICANS
The Government Accountability Office's analysis of a recent study finds that among households with members aged 55 or older, nearly 29 percent have neither retirement savings nor a traditional pension plan. This is a growing concern for most Americans as they try to determine how to get back on track with their savings and formulate a workable plan for their financial future.
According to Weber, many investors continue to make mistakes that ultimately impede their ability to successfully invest and save for retirement. As a former vice president of Temple Tikvah, Weber is keen to help members of the community through this financial conversation and his book, which makes self-learning low-cost and easy to understand. "In keeping with the teachings of Temple, I want to help people get on the straight and narrow when it comes to their finances," Weber says.
MONTHLY LUNCH & LEARN OPEN TO ALL
Temple Tikvah hosts a monthly Lunch & Learn series as part of their Sabbath observance, traditionally a day of rest when members stop or slow down their normal daily activities. The Lunch & Learn series gives members of Temple, as well as the broader community, an opportunity to discuss books, movies, or other educational materials. These events include a casual lunch at 11:30 a.m., followed by the discussion at 12:00 p.m., and are open to Temple members for a cost of $5, as well as to the public for $10. Prior reservations are needed. To RSVP, contact lifelonglearning@templetikvah.org or (516) 746-1120.
"We are pleased to have one of our very own leading a discussion on finance, which is a topic that interests all members of the congregation, as well as members of the community," says Meryl Root, chairperson of Life-Long Learning at Temple Tikvah. "At the November gathering, Ken Weber will lead a discussion on mistakes people make with their money. Copies of Ken's book will be available for sale and he will be signing them at the event. We welcome all to join us for what we anticipate will be an informative and lively discussion."
