International Educator Reflects on Life, Love in Debut Memoir Image A writer and retired international educator has published a deeply personal and touching chronicle of her life’s work and devotion to her late husband – an intimate love letter about commitment, perseverance and willingness to learn and adapt to challenges that reaches the emotional and spiritual heights and depths of the human experience.

In “Hello, My Sweetheart: A Life and Career on Three Continents,” author Sigrid Gassner-Roberts writes directly to her husband, Lloyd, and retells the story of her successful career in academia, during which she specialized in and taught Germanic languages and literature in the U.S., Europe and Australia, as well as relays her experiences adventuring with and caring for Lloyd after he had a life-threatening stroke just four years into their unexpected whirlwind romance.

“I wrote this book to help me cope with my husband’s death and to prove to readers that hardship, even the most apparently insurmountable of troubles, can be overcome,” Gassner-Roberts said. “My motto: Never give up, even if you go through difficult times. True love and willpower can get you through anything, and help will always be there for you, if only you ask for it.”

“The narrative’s highlights are its interesting stories of people and places and the author’s worldwide adventures; it often reads like an engrossing travelogue,” a BlueInk reviewer wrote about the book. “… this memoir is engaging in its in-depth look at the life of a woman who grew through tragedy in ways she never would have imagined.”

Also focused on Gassner-Roberts’ early life and studies in New York and her subsequent travels to and work in other countries, “Hello, My Sweetheart” twines the author’s unique perspective as an international student on important moments and attitudes in history with profound reflections on finding true companionship in her early 40s and overcoming significant obstacles through the power of love.
