Meet Sasquatch, a charming yet isolated fellow who discovers how the joy and power of words can bring him companionship and set him on course for an extraordinary adventure!

A Smile for Sasquatch (Insight Kids / April 2, 2019 / $16.99) is an original prologue to the Missing Link film. This picture book dovetails seamlessly into the opening of the film, providing a true companion to the film while humorously uncovering the backstory and motivations for the hero's learning to read and write.

After a chance meeting with a kind prospector in the woods of Old Kemp Creek, Sasquatch shares a smile with another person and feels friendship for the first time. This companionship fuels his desire to communicate. Sasquatch is as huggable as a teddy bear and as resourceful as his most imaginative readers as he embarks on a mission to collect words. His earnest search to belong is at the core of this beautifully narrated picture book, balancing humor and heart with texture-rich drawings that evoke a childlike wonder in all of us. A Smile for Sasquatch is sure to captivate readers of all ages.

In 2005, in a warehouse in Portland, OR, LAIKA began crafting films in the beautiful cinematic style known as stop-motion animation. LAIKA CEO Travis Knight had honed his stop-motion skills and developed a deep passion for the art form while working as an animator on projects like Eddie Murphy's The PJs at Portland-based Vinton Studios in years prior, and he decided to devote his efforts to building a studio that would carry on the tradition and modernize it for a whole new generation of moviegoers. Since then, LAIKA has released four award-winning films and assembled an unrivaled team of world-class artists.

Chris Butler made his directing debut with ParaNorman, for which he also wrote the original screenplay. Missing Link marks his return as both writer and director. Aside from developing his own projects, he was head of story and cowriter for Kubo and the Two Strings and story supervisor for Coraline. Prior to LAIKA, Chris amassed a decade's worth of experience designing and storyboarding on numerous high-profile animated projects, including the Warner Bros. classic Tim Burton's Corpse Bride. His work has been nominated for an Academy Award, a BAFTA, several Annies, and a GLAAD award-the first GLAAD nomination for an animated feature.
