She Writes Press (SWP), the independent publishing company that serves SheWrites.com, the largest online global community of women writers, announced its fledgling distribution deal with Ingram Publisher Services today.

Ingram will provide SWP with full service distribution services, will feature SWP titles in its catalogs, and will sell SWP titles to the trade through its network of sales representatives. Since its 2012 launch just over a year ago, SWP has signed over forty authors who are looking for an alternative publishing solution in which they receive a traditional press experience while maintaining greater ownership and control of their projects and their profits.

"Ingram Publisher Services is pleased to welcome She Writes Press to our growing list of clients," said Mark Ouimet, Vice President and General Manager, Ingram Publisher Services. "She Writes Press has an innovative model, and we look forward to putting our comprehensive publishing services to work for them to expand their presence and title reach in the marketplace and grow sales."

Founded in June of 2012 by former Seal Press executive editor Brooke Warner and SheWrites.com founder Kamy Wicoff, SWP is a curated press designed to offer aspiring authors an alternative independent publishing experience with the highest quality editorial and production support available-and now with traditional distribution as well. Like a traditional press, all titles released by SWP meet the highest industry standard for editorial and production quality; unlike a traditional press, authors cover the costs of those services. In exchange, SWP authors maintain ownership of their work and retain a far greater percentage of net sales: 70 percent as compared to the 15 percent that is typical of traditional publishing.

According to Warner, securing traditional distribution was the last, key element in providing SWP authors with an experience analogous to traditional publishing.

"We're excited to be working with Ingram for all the opportunities it brings for our authors," said Warner. "We have such a strong Spring 2014 list, and we're hoping our authors' successes will bring more attention to the program as a whole."

In addition to Ingram's marketing support, She Writes Press authors also enjoy exclusive access to the readers and writers of SheWrites.com, which, with more than 23,000 members worldwide, is the world's largest online community of women writers.

SWP has published 24 titles, and has plans to publish 20 more to be distributed by Ingram Publisher Services next spring. In the fall of 2014, SWP will publish co-founder Kamy Wicoff's debut novel WISHFUL THINKING, about a divorced mother of two who gains access to an app that allows her be in multiple places at once-a cautionary tale about what we really wish for when we wish to have it all. Wicoff was offered a traditional publishing deal, but when evaluating her options, and in light of the added value and reach Ingram distribution brings to SWP, Wicoff decided that the partnership publishing model was right for her.

"In the current marketplace, if you are a midlist author with a traditional publishing house, you are expected to be an 'authorpreneur'-responsible for the lion's share of marketing, publicity, and legwork. So the question becomes, 'Why not embrace entrepreneurship and reap all the rewards of the multi-year investment that is your book?'" said Wicoff, whose first book, the nonfiction title I Do But I Don't, was published by Da Capo Press in 2006. "Not only that, but with the unique platform of SheWrites.com behind the press, I know that thousands of women are already invested in my success as an SWP author. In a crowded publishing marketplace, that is a tremendous asset."
