INDIANAPOLIS
The Indianapolis Colts may have ended their 2014-2015 football season, but for author and retired cheerleader Brandi Jones, the cheering never really ends. Her new book, "The View from the Fifty-Yard Line: A Cheerleader's Story" (published by iUniverse), follows the career of a cheerleader, recounting her greatest successes, failures and hopes for the future.
Jones fell in love with cheerleading while in elementary school and continued to pursue her passion into high school and college. She was a professional cheerleader with the NFL for six years, during which time she cheered for the Indianapolis Colts at Super Bowl XLI and was selected to the NFL Pro Bowl. After the Super Bowl, Jones retired from cheerleading, but never lost her pep or enthusiasm.
"Cheerleading opened doors and allotted me a variety of opportunities I had never imagined," Jones says.
"The View from the Fifty-Yard Line" offers a rare, behind-the-scene look at the preparation needed before a game day. Jones details the fierce competitions for spots on the team and the grueling practice sessions that show how professional cheerleading is about more than just hair and makeup.
Through her story, Jones hopes to inspire readers to chase their dreams and never give up, no matter how large or small their fights may be.
