Ilaya Baxter's Novel Speaks About 'The Chameleons Among Us' ImageIlaya Baxter believes that there is a need to educate the public about narcissism. She thinks that by exposing exactly what it is like to live with a narcissist through a novel, readers will understand the tactics and recognize the signs of this very contentious personality disorder. This thought prompted Baxter to write "The Chameleons Among Us" (published by LifeRich Publishing), a suspenseful tale about a young woman who must cope with the many after-effects of marrying a narcissist while attempting to find her own identity and happiness.

Sarah has just finished her second year of medical school when she meets Roger Reynolds, a distinguished doctor who quickly sweeps her off her feet. Soon, his charming ways persuade her to center her entire life on him. Despite a few red flags, Sarah falls in love and becomes engaged without knowing that her future husband is a narcissist.

After their wedding, her life is never the same as she falls victim to his manipulative behavior. But as the difficult relationship takes a greater toll than she ever could have imagined, it is up to Sarah to keep reality straight in a whirlwind of twisted rhetoric and to stand up for what is right. As Roger continues to weave a web of lies, Sarah is left standing at a crossroads, where she must either summon the courage to move forward in a new direction or stay with a man who is a different person behind closed doors than he is in public.

"I would like readers to learn and understand what narcissism is and that it is important for US to be aware of exactly how they behave and operate so that none of us fuel them anymore by being their victims," Baxter says. "Narcissism can be anywhere like the workplace, not just at home."
