A Thursday-night gathering of work colleagues turns into a story of suspense where events become a matter of two individuals' conflicting perceptions in Elliott Clauz's new novel "If Not Me?" (published by AuthorHouse).

The story follows a woman named Megan who goes out for drinks at a local pub with her coworkers on a Thursday night. Her coworker, Keith, accompanies her home to engage in what he perceives to be a consensual sexual encounter.

But Megan feels as though she was sexually assaulted by him that night. She spirals into an episode of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and begins having vivid dreams of the harrowing event. Her computer diary, however, recollects happier times, reminding her that life is not always as dark as it seems.

As the story progresses, Megan and Keith go to court and enter a legal battle regarding the alleged sexual assault. Keith must then defend himself against the accusation, while Megan seeks closure for her PTSD and an alleged crime she perceives as reality.

Clauz hopes the themes of depression, morality and judgment in "If Not Me?" will show readers the deeper meaning behind life's seemingly difficult obstacles.
