IU Press was doubly honored at this year'sAfrican Studies Association (ASA) meeting with book and service awards. During the ASA awards ceremony on Saturday night, Land, Mobility, and Belonging in West Africa by Carola Lentz was named co-winner of this year's Melville J. Herskovits Award. Lentz shares the award with Allen and Barbara Isaacman, authors of Dams, Displacement and the Delusion of Development: Cahora Bassa and its Legacies in Mozambique.

Considered to be among the most prestigious awards for books about Africa, the Herskovits Award is presented annually by the ASA for the best scholarly work on Africa published in English during the previous year. Lentz's book is the tenth Herkovits Award winner for IU Press. Another IUP book, A Dance of Assassins: Performing Early Colonial Hegemony in the Congo by Allen F. Roberts, was a finalist for this year's award.

Also during the ceremony, IU Press was presented with the 2014 ASA Public Service Award. This award honors those who have been long-standing contributors to the ASA's mission and to African Studies, through non-academic contributions. We are proud to be the recipient of this distinguished award!
