"Affirmations"-a way of thinking, doing and talking that positively equates to a correct relation with the Universe-this is what Jan Allen discusses in her new self-help book, I can & I will. A straightforward exposition that starts with how Allen found affirmations to turn her life around during an abysmal period of it, it is a well thought out work that holds a reader's interest with its moral gumption and intelligence.

Jan Allen mostly uses her own personal experience to explain how affirmations work. The concept was introduced to her via Louise L. Hay's You Can Heal Your Life at a time when she was struggling to carry a staggering load, emotionally and physically. Her husband's death by myeloma (cancer of the bone marrow) was compounded by money woes, the raising of two daughters and bad friends. The thought of an inspirational self-help book making a difference in her life made her "[want] to throw [it] across the room" at first. Fate, though, has a way of forcing itself into circumstances which needs its positive help. Reading the book was the first affirmative action that she took on the road back to recovering her will to live and move forward.

In the introduction to the book, Allen talks a theoretical person named Joe. He is what Allen aims readers to become in teaching them affirmations-it requires a good deal of conditioning oneself to believe that anything can be achieved by positive willpower. He is someone whom the Universe treats very well. His karma is good, and he is always well positioned to receive blessings and opportunities to advance in life. The chief virtue of I can & I will is the fact that Jan Allen has applied affirmation principles into her life and clearly and precisely points out how these principles worked in the process of her reconnecting with good faith to the Universe. Joe is attuned to " Metaphysics, the law of being and knowing." Good fate or karma, is what the Universe (an objective, rational power) gives out to those who have made affirmations a natural way of running their lives.
