Hulu announced today that it has ordered straight to series a project from J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot and Warner Bros. TV based on Stephen King's novel 11/22/63.
Released in 2011, the thriller tells the story of a teacher who travels back in time to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, a journey that leads him to encounter Lee Harvey Oswald and face a past that may not want to be changed.
Bridget Carpenter, former Friday Night Lights writer, is set to executive produce and write the series, which is billed as a nine-hour limited event.
"If I ever wrote a book that cries out for long-form, event TV programming, 11/22/63 is it," King said in a statement. "I'm excited that it's going to happen, and am looking forward to working with J.J. Abrams and the whole Bad Robot team."
Abrams, whose brought Fringe, Person of Interest and Lost to TV, is hard at work on the upcoming Star Wars film and King is an executive producer on CBS's TV adaptation of his book Under the Dome, which finishes its second season Monday night.
