Hugo Daems Releases CONGO

Living in the Congo for seven years enlightened author Hugo Daems to many things about humanity. With limited technology, he found that humans were very similar to animals. He came to this conclusion one day while interacting with the Sonde tribe.

In "Congo: A Journey to Our Deepest Roots" (published by AuthorHouse), Daems' new historical education book, he takes readers into this tribe and regales them with a handful of stories he was told by the chief and his father, which helped him reach many conclusions about the way humans work.

Readers are regaled with stories about original tribal life in Africa as Daems discusses everything from the social hierarchy of the tribe, their laws and enforcement, worship and witchcraft and slavery, to the role of ghosts, initiation processes into manhood and various secret societies. Daems then inserts select stories from the tribe to give each explanation a mystifying punch of educational value.

"The kiwila is the secret sect for women. Men cannot find out what happens during a kiwila meeting. Women become very angry if men ask about it or even mention the word. Yet I suspected that Luwano knew more about the kiwila than he let on. One evening, while we were having palm wine together and felt very relaxed, I smiled at him and boldly asked if he knew the meaning and functions of the kiwila. Luwano smiled, rubbed his eyes, and, while scratching his neck, answered, 'Promise that you will never repeat this here.' 'Luwano, I will never repeat this here.' Taking a quick glance around to ascertain that his wife was not around, he began his story."

About the Author

Hugo Daems' parents were the harbor masters of Otraco, what once was known as Manu-Congo. From a young age, he found himself playing, speaking and working with the locals. He graduated from the business and political science programs at the Colonial University of Antwerp and was drafted into the Belgian Air Force, where he became a lieutenant. Once discharged, he married and began work in Congo in the Administration for the Belgian Government. He later moved to the United States with his family and worked as an assembly line worker for Hewlett Packard. After he obtained a degree from UC Berkeley, he began work in international finance departments with several major U.S. companies. He now owns a management consulting company. He has written articles for a wide range of professional magazines and is also the author of "Business Planning and Financing."
