How to Prepare Your Child for the Era of Artificial Intelligence Image A McKinsey study published in November 2017 predicts that, by 2030, up to 30% of global jobs may be displaced by automation. From voice-controlled personal assistants and music-recommendation systems to self-driving cars, the world is filled with products powered by Artificial Intelligence, and this trend will only continue. How can children prepare themselves for a world in which intelligent machines are so prevalent?

Neuroverb LLC has released a textbook on Artificial Intelligence for middle and high school students. My Cell Phone Can Think: A Textbook on Artificial Intelligence was written by computational neuroscientist Michiro Negishi, Ph.D.

My Cell Phone Can Think: A Textbook on Artificial Intelligence is designed to appeal to young readers while providing substantial technical information to prepare them for acquiring skills in Artificial Intelligence. To that end, the book illustrates the history and prospects of Artificial Intelligence with colorful pictures, at the same time explaining machine learning algorithms step by step with numerical examples that do not require an understanding of high-level mathematical concepts.

Michiro Negishi worked on neural networks at Mitsubishi Electric in Japan before coming to the United States to earn a Ph.D. in neuroscience from Boston University. He has worked on the neural-network simulation of children’s language acquisition at Rutgers University and on brain imaging at Yale University. He also developed a cortical-neural-network simulator for children and was granted an appearance at the Neural Information Processing Systems (NIPS) conference, where he presented the simulator with help from his then 6-year-old son. Currently, Michiro Negishi is the CEO of Neuroverb, a company that specializes in research and education on neural networks. He also volunteers at the Brain Station of Milford Public Library in Connecticut.
