LUSAKA, Zambia
In his compelling new novel, "Flames of Gondola" (published by Xlibris UK), author Henry M. Musenge depicts the detrimental gravity of corruption, immorality, dishonesty and betrayal and how its weight severely afflicts society.
Taking place in Zambia shortly after the country's independence, readers follow the bustle of an Indian-owned retail store in Kamwala. Rao, the owner of the business and architect of fraudulent activities, is shrewd beyond reason and does whatever he can to make money at all costs. The store's day-to-day routine is disrupted by the arrival of Chikange, a Zambian employee who is as deceitfully manipulative as he is clever. Chikange is used as a front in a fake Zambianization scheme and initially plays as a stooge to win support from boss Rao; he later rises rapidly through its ranks. With sly dishonesty, he finally and unwittingly outmaneuvers the boss to claim major ownership of the company. This is a thought-provoking story that reflects a bigger picture - a picture of the corruption and questionable morality that continue to plague society.
Fast-paced, captivating and often times humorous, "Flames of Gondola" is bound to keep the reader absorbed as it portrays immoral dealings in the country.
