Helen Harris Releases 'Prisoner of Hope'

Helen Harris' love of storytelling began when she cleverly told her first story at age 6 and is wrapped in memories of sharing family history with her aunts and cousins. These stories have shaped her life and her resolve to preserve the memories of past generations. Harris' debut novel, "Prisoner of Hope" (published by WestBow Press), is rooted from the origins of his father's own life experiences, her own childhood memories, and a lifetime of storytelling and discovery with family members.

"Prisoner of Hope" is based on a true story and is about Jay William Hawkins' life. Hawkin's story is a tale of the lifelong journey of an impressionable man who was subjected to unfathomable abuse and hardship at each turn. The experiences of seemingly endless loss and abuse at the hands of those he loved most steeled in him a determination and faith that transformed his life and built a legacy of hope.

About the Author
Helen Harris grew up in rural Western Tennessee and Southern Missouri. The daughter of a pastor, she spent much of her early days raised in the humble, but faith-filled shadows of her father's service to others. Raised in a home where hard work and sacrifice were served in daily doses, Harris shaped her resilience and determination at an early age. In high school, she spent her falls picking cotton in the dry, dusty fields so that she could supplement the meager income her father earned. That connection to past generations and her own childhood remain important elements in her life. Married young and with four small children before her 25th birthday, she spent her early adulthood caring for her family. She returned to college in her 40s, becoming a registered nurse and continuing her passion for serving others until she retired.
